Kwakwaka’wakw Recordings Added to National Recording Registry

The Library of Congress recently announced selections for the 2013 National Recording Registry, including recordings made by Franz Boas and George Herzog of Kwakwaka'wakw Chief Dan Cranmer in 1938. During the late 1940s, Herzog brought the recordings of Kwakwaka'wakw language and songs to Indiana University Bloomington, where he helped to establish the Department of Anthropology and taught courses in ethnomusicology. At present, the recordings are housed in IU Bloomington's Archives of Traditional Music. For more information, see:
