SEM 2016 Preliminary Program Now Online

The Society for Ethnomusicology will hold its 61st Annual Meeting on November 10-13, 2016, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC, co-hosted by Smithsonian Folkways Recordings and The George Washington University. For information about the meeting, online registration, and hotel accommodations, please visit the conference website at

Numerous special events will be held at SEM 2016:

Soundings: Public Sector Ethnomusicology in the 21st Century,” a pre-conference symposium organized by the American Folklife Center on Wednesday, November 9.

Concerts, tours, and other programs organized by the Local Arrangements Committee on Wednesday, November 9, to Sunday, November 13.

“The Anthropology of Sound,” a special forum organized by the Music and Sound Interest Group of the American Anthropological Association and SEM on Friday, November 11.
