MIDWEST CHAPTER OF THE SOCIETY FOR ETHNOMUSICOLOGY
2017 MEETING — CALL FOR PAPERS
The Midwest Chapter of the Society for Ethnomusicology invites students and scholars in all branches of music scholarship and related disciplines to submit abstracts for the MIDSEM annual meeting to be held from Friday-Sunday, March 24-26, 2017, at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. The Program Committee will consider papers on any topic related to music but especially encourages those that address the following themes:
Abstract Submission: Abstracts for individual papers, panels, roundtable discussions, audio/video presentations, and lecture/performance demonstrations are welcome. Papers will be limited to a maximum of 20 minutes, followed by a brief question and answer period. Those who wish to read papers or give presentations should send an abstract following the guidelines below. Those proposing panels should submit an abstract for each panelist as well as for the session as a whole. Roundtable proposals should include an abstract, a list of confirmed participants, their academic positions, and the role that each participant will play on the roundtable.
All abstracts for individual papers, panels, roundtable discussions should be submitted via email by Friday, January 6, 2017 to firstname.lastname@example.org. Abstracts should contain a maximum of 250 words. Please put your last name and “MIDSEM 2017” in the Subject Header of the email, and include the following alongside your abstract: the name(s) of presenter(s), institutional affiliation(s), title of presentation, format (paper, panel, roundtable discussion, etc.), A/V equipment requirements, e-mail address, and phone number. Please do not include the name(s) of the presenter(s) in the text of the abstract itself (except for roundtables). Notifications will be sent in early February.
Chapter Prize: MIDSEM awards the JaFran Jones Prize for outstanding papers presented by students at the chapter meeting. Students whose proposals have been accepted may apply for the prize by submitting their completed paper via email to the Chair of the Program Committee, Joshua S. Duchan, at email@example.com by Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
