The North Atlantic Fiddle Convention (NAFCo) will be holding the second of three workshops related to memory and traditional music and dance next week. Several sessions will be live-streamed with the hope that the workshops will have as broad a reach as possible. The workshops are designed to be relevant to both performers and scholars. The next workshop will be held April 27 and 28 in Aberdeen. Streamed sessions will take place Thursday, 2:00-5:30 British Summer Time (several hours earlier in North America, depending on your time zone):

Session 1 – Keynote Address: Timothy R. Tangherlini, Professor of Folklore in the Scandinavian Section of the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, UCLA, USA, ‘Fiddling with Computers: Archival and Fieldwork Challenges in Folkloristics’.

Session 2 – In the Hot Seat: Presentations by David McGuinness, Pat Ballantyne, and Gaila Kirdiene, with responses by Tim Tangherlini.

If you would be interested in accessing these events, please contact Heather Sparling (heather_sparling@cbu.ca) for the URL. There is no charge involved.

The live-streamed presentations from the first workshop, on the subject of memory and cognitive psychology, held last June, are freely available online:

The third workshop will be held in Cape Breton, Oct 4-6, 2017, on the topic of performance studies and memory. Details will be available soon.
