CALL FOR PAPERS:

The annual Columbia Music Scholarship Conference (CMSC) will be held at Columbia University, New York on Saturday, March 3, 2018.

We are delighted to announce that Gavin Steingo (Princeton University) will deliver the keynote address.

The committee invites submissions from all music disciplines on the theme Music as/in Motion. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

Historical and/or theoretical explorations of space and movement in music;

Ethnographic and/or analytical studies of music, migration, repatriation;

Music crossing borders

We especially welcome papers that address the aforementioned aspects of music as/in motion in view of broader ethical and pedagogical aspects of music research.

The conference is open to all participants, although we encourage submissions from graduate students and early-career scholars.

Submission Guidelines: Papers should be no longer than 20 minutes, with 10 minutes of following discussion; i.e. each paper will be allocated half-hour slots.

To submit a proposal, please send an email with your name, institution, email address, and an abstract of no more than 250 words to cmsc2018@gmail.com by January 7, 2018. The committee will select papers anonymously. All scholars who submit abstracts will be notified of the committee’s decision by January 19, 2018. Please direct all inquiries to conference co-chairs Jane Forner (jif2109@columbia.edu) and Michael Weinstein-Reiman (mdw2115@columbia.edu).
