SEM 2018: Exemptions for Individuals Affected by U.S. Visa Policies

SEM recognizes the disruption to international travel caused by the current U.S. administration’s visa policies. In an effort to make the 2018 Annual Meeting as inclusive as possible, the Society will again grant exemptions to its conference policy that prohibits presentations by proxy reading or video.

Exemptions will be offered to individuals who are unable to obtain visas due to U.S. administration policies. Upon acceptance of their abstracts, individuals wishing to request an exemption may submit an online form on the SEM website, along with confirmation of their intention to participate in the 2018 Annual Meeting. SEM will disseminate a notice about the online form in early June, in conjunction with the delivery of abstract acceptance emails.

In June, upon receipt of exemption requests from individuals whose abstracts have been accepted, SEM will make special arrangements for presentations via video and will offer a reduced conference registration fee for these individuals. A current SEM membership will remain a requirement for all presenters.

SEM strongly encourages the submission of abstracts from citizens of all countries of the world and looks forward to wide-ranging dialogue at its 2018 Annual Meeting in Albuquerque!
