The Anatolian Ecumene Special Interest Group brings together scholars who work on issues regarding music and expressive cultural practices of communities associated with the geographic region of Anatolia and former Ottoman and Byzantine territories or who have an interest in the music and culture of this area.

The mission of SEM Anatolian Ecumene Special Interest Group is to promote scholarship on issues of music, dance and other expressive practices of people and communities in the greater Anatolian/former Ottoman/former Byzantine regions and diaspora. The purpose of the group is to act as a focal point within SEM for studies on cultural practices of this region and its communities and to support panels, conferences, publications, and other forums on these area issues.
