The SEM Archiving Special Interest Group is dedicated to the discussion of audio-visual archiving and the promotion of appropriate standards and practices for the recording, documentation, storage, and preservation of audio-visual materials. They are responsible for putting together A Manual for Documentation, Fieldwork, and Preservation for Ethnomusicologists.
We are committed to providing SEM members with information to assist in planning field research and guidelines for the preparation of field research materials for archival deposit, with the aim of facilitating long-term access by researchers and source communities alike.
The Archiving SIG meets annually during the SEM conference and occasionally organizes a conference session on subjects related to archiving and field research,, including copyright and other intellectual property issues, archival training, and repatriation of recordings.
All SEM members are welcome to attend and participate in Archiving SIG meetings. Anyone who wishes to join the Archiving SIG listserv can do so by emailing the chair at the email address below.
