1985 Lecture: Barbara Krader

Dr. Barbara Krader will be the distinguished speaker for SEM at the Vancouver meeting. The title of her Charles Seeger Memorial Lecture is "Slavic Folk Music: Forms of Singing and Self-Identity.”

The first woman in the history of the Society for Ethnomusicology to present the Seeger lecture, Dr. Krader also was the first woman to hold the position of president of the Society. She earned a Ph.D. in Slavic Languages and Literature of Radcliff-Harvard; her undergraduate major at Vassar was music. Dr. Krader has enjoyed friendships with Charles Seeger, George Herzog, Maud Karpeles, Erich and Doris Stockmann and many Bulgarian, Yugoslav, Czech, Slovak, Ukrainian, Russian and Polish ethnomusicologists.
