The seventh annual Jazz Education Network Conference, January 6-9, 2016, Louisville, KY is calling for submission of jazz research presentations. The research track solicits the submission of original, principled research presentations dealing with topics related to jazz history, pedagogy, industry, and performance practice. Presentations will run parallel to clinics and performances during the conference. We encourage research that has a direct impact on jazz education and performance.

Submission guidelines:

Submit a 300-word abstract including the title and short outline of the presentation, your resume (100 words maximum), and photo by March 31, and join JEN at www.jazzednet.org. In your submission also indicate if you’d like to be considered for both, presentation session and poster presentation, or either one only. Papers should directly relate to jazz as an art form and may include:

  • Historical perspectives
  • Quantitative studies
  • Qualitative research including case studies
  • Literature reviews

Submissions must be submitted in .doc or .pdf format. Presentations will be 25 minutes in length, including a minimum of 10 minutes for questions and answers; a projector and screen will be available, presenters will need to provide their own computers and projector adapters. In addition, there will be a Poster Presentation session during the conference with the opportunity for presenters to introduce their posters. Hardware such as easels and mounting tools will be provided. Presenters must be members of JEN, will receive a conference pass, and must agree to stay at the conference hotel. Presenters will have the opportunity to submit their completed papers to a special edition of the Journal of Jazz Studies.
