The SEM Applied Ethnomusicology (AE) Section will be pleased to sponsor proposals for organized sessions (panels, roundtables, etc.) related to applied ethnomusicology, at the 2018 SEM conference, to be held November 15-18, 2018 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA.

If you are proposing an organized session (panel, roundtable, etc.) and would like AE Section sponsorship, send your proposal to all the co-chairs (please see email addresses below) no later than Monday Feb. 12, 2018, which is five days before the SEM online submission deadline of Friday, Feb. 16. Your proposal should contain the abstract and title for the session, the names of the presenters, and, if applicable, the titles and abstracts (or brief summaries) of the individual presentations. The co-chairs will let you know as soon as possible whether the AE Section can sponsor. Organizers then indicate AE Section sponsorship when submitting the proposal online to SEM.

Individuals wishing to find others to join them in organized sessions related to applied ethnomusicology should use the normal channels, such as SEM-L, and the Applied Ethnomusicology listserve (a Yahoo Group).

Please note that the AE Section also sponsors grants, in amounts up to $500, to help defray travel to the SEM conference. Preference is given to presenters on AE Section-sponsored sessions. Grantees must be members of the AE Section, but it is not required for Section sponsorship that all presenters be AE Section members. Information about how to apply for these grants will be announced after the conference program has been determined.
