Diversifying Music Academia: Strengthening the Pipeline

31 October–1 November 2018, immediately preceding AMS/SMT San Antonio

Institute of Texan Cultures, University of Texas at San Antonio

Diversifying Music Academia: Strengthening the Pipeline is a pre-AMS/SMT symposium which seeks to explore why many people marginalized by their race/ethnicity, gender, and/or sexuality continue to have difficulty in finishing graduate degrees, attaining gainful employment, and receiving tenure within all fields of music studies.

We are now issuing a Call for Insights: 20-minute slots, and speakers are encouraged to allot equal time to discussion and presentation. We invite participants to draw upon their rich experiences in order to posit or reflect on strategies for advancing diversity at structural and institutional levels. Papers, dialogues, personal stories, debates, teach-ins, and other formats are welcome. Submissions should include a 250–350 word abstract and supplemental materials where appropriate. E-mail abstracts to projectspectrummusic [at] gmail.com by 1 July 2018.

Our full Call for Insights may be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vvBGMiVoVXAaPG2I6xgSPuxGwEWNeRncaLfDVUu1PAw/edit

Registration for Diversifying Music Academia will open in August. Please visit https://projectspectrummusic.com in the meantime for more information and updates.
