Dr. Rahile Dawut, a renowned scholar from China’s Uighur ethnic minority group, was last seen by family and colleagues in December 2017. On August 29, 2018, SEM President Gregory Barz sent a letter to Terry Branstad, United States Ambassador to China, with a request for support in locating and protecting Dr. Dawut. Dr. Barz received a response from Ambassador Branstad in October 2018.
