Brazilian Ethnomusicology and Musicology Symposium

The São Paulo Contemporary Composers Festival is proud to announce a partnership with the Brazilian Ethnomusicology and Musicology Symposium (BEMS). Held in São Paulo and Campinas, Brazil, BEMS is a ten-day program that will expose participants to Brazilian musical cultures; methods of responsible and effective fieldwork; and current research trajectories in indigenous, classical, and contemporary Brazilian music. The program will culminate in a two-day experience with the indiineous Kariri-Xocó tribe.

 

BEMS will provide the following opportunities for Musicologists and Ethnomusicologists:

 

  1. Learn, study, and experience a wide range of musics: Indigenous, Afro-Brazilian, classical, and popular
  2. Encounter Brazilian music first hand in São Paulo and Campinas
  3. Research and perform fieldwork under the guidance of national and international specialists of Brazilian music  
  4. Network and interact with Brazilian and international scholars, musicians, artists
