On behalf of the Department of Music at New York University’s Graduate School of Arts & Science, we invite you to our Spring 2020 conference, Un/Sounding the Relational City. Over the course of two days, participants explore how the sonic politics of urban space and the rhetoric of soundness provide a critical vantage into the role of sound and music, real or imagined, in organizing or disorganizing urban life. The conference features:

·         Six panels of academic paper presentations

·         Live performances and ongoing audiovisual installations

·         Keynote address by Steven Feld,Relational Borders: Cartographies of Urban (Un)sounding.”

Co-Sponsored by NYU Department of Anthropology, the Avery Fisher Center for Music & Media, and the Office of the Dean for the Humanities

The conference is FREE and open to the public, but we ask you to please RSVP via our Facebook event page. All other information can be found on our conference website including the schedule, abstracts and bios, venue details, and travel directions.
