The Society for Ethnomusicology invites applications for three research positions for “Musicians in America during the Covid-19 Pandemic,” a new project funded by a CARES Act grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Researchers will conduct short interviews with a variety of musicians throughout the United States through video-conferencing software, edit video recordings, write related texts, and work with SEM staff to produce an open-access online archive of interviews. Each Researcher must commit to 12 weeks of full-time work (40 hours/week) between July and October 2020. The Researchers will work as contractors of SEM and will be compensated at the rate of $45/hour. In keeping with the CARES Act goal of retaining or creating jobs, SEM seeks applicants who are unemployed or underemployed.

Requirements for the positions include: (1) a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology or a related field; (2) broad knowledge of music in the United States; (3) experience in conducting interviews with musicians; (4) expertise in producing and editing videos; and (5) ability to write for a general audience.

To apply for a position, submit a letter of interest, CV, two short writing samples, links to two videos or video excerpts, and names of three references to Stephen Stuempfle, SEM Executive Director, at semexec@indiana.edu. Nominations of candidates are also welcome. The deadline for receipt of applications and nominations is July 15, 2020.
