Social Justice Paper Prize (Crossroads Section for Difference and Representation)

Purpose: To acknowledge the most compelling paper on music and social justice themes or issues delivered at annual SEM meetings.

Eligibility: This award is designed for any student, faculty, or independent scholar whose paper has been accepted for presentation at an annual SEM meeting.

Prize: The award is a cash prize of $200 and $100

Regularity: An award will be given every year

Administration: The selection committee consists of two officers of the Crossroads Section for Difference and Representation, and up to three Crossroads Section members, including one graduate student if possible.

Application Process: PDF copies of a paper are to be sent to Brenda Romero at romerob@colorado.edu and Susan Asai at s.asai@northeastern. If there are supplementary audio-visual materials, please attach one file of no more than 4 MB. The file should be in a standard format with the author's last name and an excerpt of the title of the paper title in the file name. A “wide breadth and / or application” is a default requirement to qualify for the $200 prize. The submission cover page must include the author’s brief description of how the paper illuminates social justice issues as they intersect with music, difference, and representation. Two submissions are allowed, each eligible for each prize.
