The SEM website offers a wide range of information pertaining to our organization, its members, and the field of ethnomusicology.
Listed below are some highlights, as well as information on how to sign into the website, search the member directory, and update your member profile.

Explore the Website

Good places to start in exploring the website are:

- About Us – Information on SEM, including FAQs, governance, position statements, and contacts for officers, editors, and staff. Also included is a definition and overview of the field of ethnomusicology.

SEM Publications & Online Forums – Journal, newsletters, translations, blog, podcast, electronic list, and social media.

- Guide to Programs in Ethnomusicology – Information on schools and other institutions throughout the world.

- Conferences – Information on upcoming and past SEM Annual Meetings. See Video-Streams for a selection of panels from 2011 to the present and Past Meetings for program and abstracts books from 2006 to the present.

- Groups – Information on SEM committees, sections, special interest groups, regional chapters, ancillary organizations, and liaisons with other organizations.


- Special Projects The SEM Strategic Plan and information on current and past initiatives.

Sign Into the Website to Access the Members' Area and Member Directory

If you are an SEM member, sign in (with your username and password) to access the Members’ Area of the website and the Member Directory. The Members' Area includes current issues of the SEM Newsletter, SEM documents, and member discounts. If you would like to join SEM, select Membership. To renew a membership, sign in first to retrieve your current membership information.

Search the Member Directory

Use the Member Directory to search for ethnomusicologists by name, place of residence, or research interests.

- Sign into the website with your username and password.

- Select “Directory Search” (bottom of menu) and enter search terms.

- Click on names to view records.

Review/Edit Your Profile in the Member Directory

- Sign into the website and select "Manage Profile" on the right side of the page.

- Select “Edit Bio” in the center of the following page.

Website Update Form
