Gertrude Rivers Robinson Annual Meeting Travel Award

Purpose: In an effort to increase the number of ethnomusicologists from underrepresented groups at the SEM Annual Meeting, this award provides travel support to African American and African Caribbean doctoral candidates and untenured faculty. Preference will be given to individuals who are delivering a presentation at the meeting.

Eligibility: African American and African Caribbean doctoral candidates and untenured faculty. Previous winners must wait three years before reapplying.

Award: $1,000

Regularity: Annually

Administration: The Gertrude Rivers Robinson Annual Meeting Travel Award Committee consists of a Chair and three additional members, appointed by the SEM President. The committee evaluates completed applications and selects an awardee. Each year’s award is announced and awarded at the SEM Annual Meeting.

1) Application form, including contact information and details on ABD status or faculty position.

2) A 250-word statement on how attending the SEM Annual Meeting will further your professional goals and research agenda (upload with form).

3) Curriculum vitae (upload with form).

Expectations for Award Recipients

Robinson Travel Award recipients are encouraged to attend the annual meeting of the Robinson Network at the SEM Annual Meeting and to contribute actively through shared governance, fundraising, and mentoring of others when appropriate. Ongoing participation will ensure that the Robinson legacy continues.
