Criteria for Posting to SEMAnnouncements-L
1.) Only subscribers to SEMAnnouncements-L may submit messages for posting to the list. Though individuals may submit messages, most appropriate announcements are submitted on behalf of an organization (a society, a journal, a publisher, or a school, for example).
2.) Messages are restricted to announcements likely to be of general interest to ethnomusicologists. Examples of such announcements may include:
- an official communication from an SEM officer, committee chair, or editor
- an announcement from an SEM Interest Group
- news from a regional society
- an announcement of a conference or workshop
- a call for papers
- an announcement of a new journal issue
- an announcement of a new book
- an announcement of a new website
- announcements of concerts or lecture series, including event on open web-based platforms
- a call for nominations or applications for an award, scholarship, or research study
- an announcement of award winners
- a job posting
3.) Every message submitted to SEMAnnouncements-L must conclude with appropriate contact information for the individual, organization or program.
4.) Messages not conforming to the above guidelines will be rejected. In particular, messages of the kinds listed below are not appropriate for SEMAnnouncements-L:
- an announcement of a single new article or blog post, or any other message promoting one’s own work or personal profile (book announcements are permitted as noted above)
- a query about musical examples, textbooks, teaching strategies, or other topics (this would be appropriate for SEMDiscussions-L)
- any other message intended to stimulate discussion or to elicit personal replies (these types of messages are appropriate for SEMDiscussions-L).
Further Details
1) Posts should be clear and short (300 words or less), directing interested readers to a web site for fuller information wherever possible. Posts with non-functioning URLs will be returned for editing.
2) "Reminder" posts may be submitted no more than once for any given announcement.
3 ) Please proofread your announcements carefully as it is impossible to "unsend" an email.
4) Posts should be sent in "plain text" or HTML markup. Attachments or images will not be sent to the list.
Grievance Process
- Individual concerns regarding published posts, after the fact, should be reported to the moderating team.
- Individual concerns regarding revisions requested by moderators and/ or reject of posts may be brought to Publication Advisory Committee (PAC) via the Committee Chair. Contact information for PAC may be found here: https://www.ethnomusicology.org/page/Gov_SC
- In the event of this request, the SEM E-List Moderators will recuse themselves of discussion within the PAC.
