Welcome to an overview of SEM’s history, developed in conjunction with the Society’s 50th anniversary Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2005. Below is an article on the founding of SEM in 1955, information on Annual Meetings and Charles Seeger Lecturers, and lists of past Presidents and of Editors of the journal Ethnomusicology and the SEM Newsletter. Also included are collections of photographs and a few histories of other ethnomusicology institutions.
